Griffin is always looking for talented marketing communications professionals and eager interns . Full-time positions are not always available, but we hire interns year-round. While each position carries specific skill sets, we prefer that most applicants meet some basic requirements:

Account Executive

The Account Executive is a 2-3-year professional who helps execute communications programs and plans for agency clients: See more details

Job Responsibilities

  • Writing -- drafting press materials, newsletters, brochures, web copy, etc.;
  • Media relations – updating media lists, media pitching, blog monitoring, social media outreach
  • Research – compiling information, summarizing findings
  • Project/event management
  • Client relations – attending client meetings, participating in client brainstorming sessions, compiling monthly client status reports, developing/maintaining timelines
  • Administrative – answering phones, attending staff meetings, assisting with office support, participating in professional social networking and team-building exercises

Measured Levels of Success

  • Produces accurate, timely and high quality results in all assigned tasks.
  • Contributes innovation and creativity to assigned account projects.
  • Adheres to deadlines and established standards
  • Prepares for meetings; contributes ideas, information and recommendations
  • Learns from mistakes and does not repeat mistakes.

Qualifications

  • Experience – Minimum of 2-3 years PR and communications experience (preferably in agency setting)
  • Education – College graduate, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism
  • Skills –
    • Writing – newswriting (including Associated Press style format), sales-oriented copy (including newsletters, proposals, etc.); three writing samples required (press release, media pitch and newsletter article) candidate must be a strong writer
    • Time Management – ability to self-manage time spent on projects
    • Computer – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
    • Communications – general knowledge of all tools used to support communications and branding campaigns (i.e., media relations, social media, advertising, collateral, events, Internet, grass-roots, etc.); creativity
    • Other – strong organization skills
  • Capabilities – multi-tasking, performing under tight deadlines, problem solver, attention to detail, organized, can listen to and take direction/constructive criticism
  • Personality Traits – persistent, optimistic, service-oriented/personable, can-do attitude, confident, ability to lead, initiative, honest and direct, responsible

Senior Account Executive

The Senior Account Executive is a 5-7-year professional who helps develop, manage and execute creative communications programs and plans for agency clients: See more details

Reports to:  Account Manager

Job Responsibilities (including, but not limited to, the following)

  • Writing -- drafting press materials, newsletters, brochures, web copy, etc.; candidate must be a strong writer
  • Media relations – updating media lists, media pitching, blog monitoring, social media outreach
  • Research – compiling information, summarizing findings
  • Project/event management
  • Client relations – attending/leading client meetings, interfacing with the client, participating in client brainstorming sessions, compiling monthly client status reports, developing/maintaining timelines.  May manage some client accounts for the agency.
  • Administrative – attending staff meetings, assisting with office support, participating in professional social networking and team-building exercises

Measured Levels of Success

Success in the Senior Account Executive position will be measured by the following benchmarks:

  • Regularly demonstrates confidence and ability to solve client challenges; proactively develops lists of recommended solutions and presents to Account Manager for consideration
  • Regularly presents ideas or new industry trends and practices to managers and co-workers
  • Meets set deadlines for all tasks
  • Produces quality work without grammatical errors and limited AP errors
  • Learns from mistakes; same mistakes are not repeated
  • Positive feedback from client contact or vendors
  • Prepares for meetings; brings ideas and actively participates in company and account meetings
  • Adheres to the agency’s standards of excellence

These benchmarks will be evaluated by the Account Manager.

Account Manager

The Account Manager is an 8+ year communications professional who leads the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic communications programs and plans for assigned agency clients: See more details

Job Responsibilities

Account Services (90%)

  • Manages all assigned account team activities to ensure deadlines are met; delegates responsibilities to team members; conducts internal account brainstorming sessions; responsible for team production of high-quality work
  • Performs account team work as needed – i.e., copywriting, high-level media pitching, social media outreach
  • Reviews/edits all materials before sending to client for approval
  • Client relations – serves as day-to-day client interface; plans and leads client meetings, sets realistic client expectations on all projects; continually keeps client abreast of status of current projects
  • Supports additional client activities as requested by supervisors

Human Resources (10%)

  • Manages employees – participates in new employee interviews, provides clear direction on assigned client projects; mediates/counsels on employee performance issues, participates in annual reviews,
  • Participates in and contributes to administrative functions of the company including  staff meetings, office operations and support, and team-building exercises

Measured Levels of Success

Success in the Account Manager position will be measured by the following benchmarks:

  • Provides effective strategic direction to account teams
  • Regularly makes recommendations to clients to solve problems without having to necessarily involve senior management; exhibits confidence in interactions with clients
  • Ensures assigned account teams are performing efficiently, on schedule and within the established scope.
  • Actively sets and meets deadlines for account tasks
  • Lack of complaints from client contact
  • Continually contributes innovativeapproaches to standard communications projects (i.e. press releases, newsletters, etc.) in order to increase overall impact and effectiveness
  • Ensures account teams are producing superior quality products and adhering to agency’s standards of excellence

Senior Account Manager

Job Responsibilities, Accountabilities, Duties

Account Services (80%)

  • Develops/implements/evaluates strategic marketing campaigns and communications programs/tools for assigned agency clients
  • Manages all team activities for assigned accounts  to ensure deadlines are met; delegates responsibilities to team members; responsible for team production of high-quality work
  • Maintains outstanding client relationships through effective communications, reporting and problem-solving.
  • Serves as day-to-day client interface; plans and leads client meetings (including client contract/financial discussions)
  • Sets realistic client expectations on all projects; continually keeps client abreast of status of current projects
  • Develops overall marketing strategies for assigned accounts
  • Pitches high-level media and/or complex story ideas
  • Edits all content and collateral before sending to client for approval
  • Conducts and leads internal account brainstorming meetings
  • Assists Practice Leads in grooming Account Managers, Account Executives to better service their accounts
  • Supports additional client activities as requested by agency leadership ; actively participates in special projects of the agency

Human Resources (10%)

  • Conducts new employee interviews
  • Conducts direct report employee annual reviews
  • Manages employees
    • Provides clear direction on assigned client projects
    • Assists in serving as mediator/counselor for employee issues
  • Participates in administrative functions of the company, including  staff meetings, office support and team-building exercises

Business Development/Agency Marketing (10%)

  • Participates in new business development inquiry meetings
  • Participates in evaluation and development of new business proposals/scopes; assists with editing of such documents
  • Actively identifies, pursues new business development opportunities with established clients.

Success in the Senior Account Manager position will be measured by the following benchmarks:

  • Regularly makes recommendations to clients to solve problems without having to necessarily involve senior management; expresses confidence in interactions with clients
  • Assigned accounts are profitable
  • Account teams operate efficiently
  • Consistently meets set deadlines for all tasks

  • Continually finds innovative approaches to standard marketing projects (i.e. press releases, newsletters, etc.) in order to keep pace with new trends, best practices and to increase positive impact
  • Prepares for client brainstorming meetings; brings ideas to the table
  • Ensures account teams are producing superior quality products and adhering to agency’s standards of excellence

These benchmarks will be evaluated by National Practice Leads.

  • Experience -- Minimum of 10 years marketing and communications experience.  Time spent at a marketing or PR firm is a must!
  • Education -- College graduate, with a degree in communications or marketing
  • Skills –
    • Management -- supervision, client relations, project management, time management, understanding of daily operations of a marketing firm
    • Computer – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
    • Marketing – strong knowledge of marketing strategy and the tools used to support marketing communications and branding campaigns (i.e. media relations, advertising, collateral, events, Internet, grass-roots, etc.); creativity; writing (including Associated Press style format)
    • Other – sales pitching
  • Capabilities – multi-tasking, performing under tight deadlines, problem solver, delegation, leadership, attention to detail, organized, can listen to and take direction/constructive criticism

Internships

We offer real-world experience to young professionals and college students. Typically, our internships last for one school semester, with hours ranging from 20-40 per week. We seek interns who have a bachelor's degree in communications or journalism or who are in their final 1-2 years of undergraduate studies in any of these fields.
